“Sure there’s a catch,” Doc Daneeka replied. “Catch-22. Anyone who wants to get out of combat duty isn’t really crazy.”

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one’s own safely in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn’t, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn’t have to; but if he didn’t want to he was sane and had to. “That’s some catch, that Catch-22,” he observed.

“It’s the best there is,” Doc Daneeka agreed.

Yossarian saw it clearly in all its spinning reasonableness. There was an elliptical precision about its perfect paris of parts that was graceful and shocking, like good modern art, and at times Yossarian wasn’t quite sure that he saw it at all, just the way he was never quite sure about good modern art or about the flies Orr saw in Appleby’s eyes. He had Orr’s word to take for the flies in Appleby’s eyes.

“Oh, they’re there, all right,” Orr had assured him about the flies in Appleby’s eyes after Yossarian’s fist fight with Appleby in the officers’ club, “although he probably doesn’t even know it. That’s why he can’t see things as they really are.”

“How come he doesn’t know it?” inquired Yossarian.

“Because he’s got flies in his eyes,” Orr explained with exaggerated patience. “How can he see he’s got flies in his eyes if he’s got flies in his eyes?”

It made as much sense as anything else, and Yossarian was willing to give Orr the benefit of the doubt because Orr was from the wilderness outside New York City and knew so much more about wildlife that Yossarian did, and because Orr, unlike Yossarian’s mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, in-law, teacher, spiritual leader, legislator, neighbour and newspaper, had never lied to him about anything crucial before. It means the property of having two levels of structures, such that units of the primary level are composed of elements of the secondary level and each of the two levels has its own principles of organization. (一) 转专业 转专业一般在大一下学期 4、5 月份的时候进行,但是外语类保送生和非通用语自主招 生考生不能转专业。 (二) 双辅修 双辅修的报名及考试在转专业之后进行,除文学院传播学系、东方艺术系等专业外,基 本都有双辅修名额,修双学位要求第一学期学分绩在 85 分以上,是否考试、采取哪种考试 形式由各学院自行决定。比如历史学院不用考试,只需要填报名表就可以,而经济学院的专 业都要通过考试才可以获得双辅修机会。南开比较热门的双辅修专业是金融、会计、财政、 翻译等。 南开另外开设了一个经济金融双修班,专门针对想要修经济金融第二学位的同学,单独 考试,与经济学院的其他双辅修专业不同。这个双修班不需要学生自己排课,课程统一安排 在晚上或者周六周日。 南开大学 2013 年修改了双辅修政策,规定从 2013 级学生开始,凡报名双修的同学都要 延迟一年毕业,但是具体怎么实施现在还不清楚。 南开大学的新校区将于 2015 年建成,经济学院金融专业、文学院、历史学院、哲学院、 法学院、旅游与服务学院、环境科学与工程学院等都会搬到新校区,外国语学院会留在老校 区。两个校区的距离比较远且交通不方便,所以到时候双辅修的课程如何安排还是一个问题。

南开大学外语学院翻译系于2002年11月组建,随着我国加入WTO,社会各个领域对外语复合型人才的需求越来越迫切,要求越来越高。为适应这一变化的趋势,根据教育部的有关指示精神,南开大学外语学院于2002年11月在原英语系基础上组建了翻译系.该系的宗旨是培养复合型英语专业人才,即具有英语专业本科知识和能力,同时又具备其他一门应用学科知识的复合型人才。经过严格的选拔、系统的教育、本系的毕业生将具有纯熟的口语能力、系统的学科知识,从而能够熟练地从事某种专业的口笔译。本系将采用英语口语技能与应用型 学科知识体系并重的教育模式。

目前本系在高年级阶段开设了三个专业方向:外经贸翻译方向,国际政治文化交流方向,科

技翻译方向,学生可根据个人偏好任选专业方向。

西语系于1997年随南开大学外国语学院的成立而诞生,其前身是原外文系俄语教研室、原

公共外语教学部、原外贸外语系的德、法语教学力量。

我系现设俄语、法语、德语、西班牙语四个专业,有教师16人,其中教授3人,副教授6人,讲师4人,助教3人,俄罗斯外籍专家2名,法语、德语外籍专家各2—3名。

一. 了解报考院校专业往年的英语口试形式

各院校各专业的复试口试形式各不相同,一定要对症下药。可以通过询问以前考过的师兄、师姐们来了解复试口试的形式,可能的话,了解一下口试中常出现的问题。

总的来说,复试口试有这样几种类型:自我介绍;读某篇英文文章,然后进行翻译或回答相关问题;抽到某个话题进行演讲、阐述;两三人就同一个话题进行讨论、辩论(多人一起复试的情况);自由问答(可能是专业或与专业相关的时事热点问题,也可能只是了解个人情况)。

二. 了解导师/考官

首先必须了解导师在该专业的研究方向,可能的话,看看他们写的书,因为在专业问题上,导师一般都会往自己研究方向上靠拢;其次,了解导师在口试中常问的一些问题及习惯(这个又得求助于师兄师姐们了);最后,可以给导师打电话,让他/她知道你是谁,有你这么一个考生参加复试。

三. 对以下几个方面要多加注意,适当练习几遍

1、见面问候语:Good morning / afternoon, dear professors. I am XXX. (Nice to meet you。)。告别用语:Thanks for your time. / Thank you for giving such a chance. I hope to see you again and soon。

2、 自我介绍篇(重点)。基本上每个院校每个专业的口试中都会涉及这一方面。考官其实是要借此了解你的口头表达能力以及你的报名表之外的一些信息。自我介绍时间以2-3分钟为宜。思路要清楚,要突出重点,口语尽量流利(不要太流利了,有背诵之嫌)。

1) 考官要求你作自我介绍时,不要用…let me introduce myself briefly / please allow me to introduce myself to you等句子,重复、啰嗦。开头可以只用一句话引入:Dear professors, I feel so glad to meet all of you here.然后就可以进入主题,介绍姓名、年龄等等。

2) 自我介绍的主体内容

① 姓名。介绍自己姓名时,发音一定要准(南方考生要多加注意)。

② 年龄。年龄可以跟在姓名后带过(I am XXX, 25 years old)。

③ 原来的院校、专业。注意:一定要把原来学校的英文名称、专业的英文名称弄清楚(尤其是跨校、跨专业的学生)。

所属的公司、职位。注意:在职考生则应将自己公司、自己职位/职称的英文名称弄明白。

④ 性格、能力。可以着重强调你的个性对你报考的专业有何积极的作用。如果报考的是学术性的专业,可以说自己细心(carefully,detail-oriented)、条理分明(logical)、踏实(steady)等;如果是研究性、应用性更强一点的专业,可以说自己负责(responsible)、可靠(dependable)、有效率(efficient)等。

其他的一些表示性格、能力的形容词有:active, aggressive(有进取心的), adaptable, amicable(友好的), analytical(善于分析的), cooperative, creative, disciplined, dutiful, energetic, faithful, gentle, independent(有主见的), innovative, motivated, modest, objective, precise, punctual, precise(一丝不苟的), temperate等等。

在职考生或有过工作经验的考生还可以强调一下你的工作成绩,如:As the assistant to the General Manger of XXX Company, I have helped to negotiate a $200,000 deal for the corporation.

⑤ 爱好。All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. 除了强调你的学习的重视,同时也要避免给考官一种“书呆子”的感觉。一般可以从体育、音乐、电影等方面来说,同时要简单说明这些爱好对你的积极意义(build my body, relax myself, open my mind…);注意避免提到那些可能引起考官反感的爱好,如:playing computer games,watching TV等。

3、关于自己家庭、家乡、原来的学校的一些情况,尤其要注意原来学校的英文名称。

1) 家庭。需要注意的是,考官并不是为了做人口调查而提出这个问题的,所以应该避免流水账似地介绍家庭成员;要尽量说明家人(尤其是父母)对你造成哪些方面(性格、职业规划、做事风格等)良好的影响。可以参考以下句式结构:Just like my father, I am especially interested in history. / Though my father is an ordinary worker, his responsible attitude towards work has a great influence on me.

2) 家乡。正所谓“一方水土养育一方人”,考官实际上是想从你对家乡的介绍中找出有关你性格、志向的线索。可以从历史、历史人物、著名景点、独特风俗或特产等方面来简单介绍,注意要表达热爱家乡的情感。

3) 学校。如果是本校考生的话,在自我介绍中就可以点到(拉近跟考官的关系)。如果是外校,考官通常会问:Why did you choose our university? 那么我们就可以说说它与报考院校之间的异同,然后说明为什么你选择这个学校(I do love the atmosphere in your university. It is full of youthful spirits.);要注意的是:一定要说明你对在原来的院校接受教育心存感激之情appreciation(从好的方面说一说),着重强调希望能被录取,表达自己坚定的决心、展望一下未来。

4、 未来规划——学习规划(研究生以后的方向),人生规划(短期、长期)

5、 意外情况——没听清,你应该怎样要求老师再说一遍(Pardon?/ Sorry, I can?t follow you. / Sorry, I lost you. Can you repeat that question again?);需要时间思考、整理思路的时候,不要出现沉默,可以用一些hmm, err, well等语气词;不会回答某些问题时,千万不要不懂装懂,可以明确地告诉老师你不知道(Sorry, but I have no idea about it。)。

6、跨专业问题——老师通常会对跨专业的学生问这样一个问题:为什么会选择这个专业?不要前篇一律地回答只说“我对这个专业感兴趣”,可以把每个人都会谈到的原因简要地罗列一下,对具有自己特色的原因则可大谈特谈,详细地阐述自己的观点,让老师印象深刻。

7、专业知识——在英语口试中(非英语专业),如果老师提问专业问题,通常不会指望你能进行流利的、专业性强的阐述;但是一些专业术语的英文说法还是有必要了解一下的。

一、考试科目基础英语、专业英语(综合英语)、第二外国语、政治在这四门课目当中,前三门科目是考生报考的学校的学院自己出题,每个学校在每门科目上各有侧重,有所不同。政治科目采用的是全国统一试题。

二、备考策略宏观层面和微观层面;主体和客体,宏观层面:整个备考过程的计划,及“战略”;微观层面:具体的计划,可以具体到每个月,每一周,甚至每一天,及“战术”。因为,考研就是一次战斗,只有胜者为王。主体和客体:主体:考生本人;客体:备考过程所用的资源。

下面我就结合两个大的方面,来谈谈英语专业考研的备考过程中遇到的一些问题。

1.报考学校的选择。从主体上来讲,考生要发挥积极能动性。考生要尽早得确定所要报考的学校,因为每个学校在试卷的侧重点是不一样的。考生尽早定下考研学校来以后,就可以有针对性的进行备考。在确定学校的时候,有几个因素可以供大家参考:

(1)学校的整体水平以及这个学校的英语专业的水平,包括是不是外语类的学校,985的等等,以及英语专业导师的水平(这个在网上都可以查到的)。

(2)自己的意愿,看看这个学校的英语专业的研究生课程有没有自己喜欢的,或者是与将来想从事的行业有关的专业。比如,一个考生将来想从事新闻行业,那么北京外国语大学将是一个不错的选择。

(3)学校所在地的发展水平以及发展空间,以及这个学校在当地的相对优势(这是针对那些想研究生毕业后留在报考学校当地就业的考生而言的)

(4)如果是跨校考研的话,最好事先调查确认想报考学校有没有自己的学姐,学长之类的,这样他们不仅可以帮考生得到更多的有用备考资料,而且会对考生以后复试增加砝码(因为他们已经为曾经的本科学校的学生树立了良好的形象,导师是会很欣然接受这个学校的其他学生的)。

(5)看看所报考的学校的相对竞争程度,比如说北京的一些高校,其实水平并不怎们样,事不过是仰仗自己的地理位置优势,给考生造成一种错误的向导。

(6)还有一点,就是南北方的差异。南北方在英语教学上是存在差异的,互不相让,这就像北京外国语大学和上海外国语大学之间的竞争一样。一般而言,在北方长大的学生考取南方的学校的几率是不大的,因为无论从日常的生活,还是从考研命题的角度来讲,其思维上的差异都是不小的。说了以上几条之后,还有一点比较重要,那就是在选学校之前,最好还是先买一套想报考的学校的考研真题,亲自做一遍,看看是不适合自己,然后再综合以上因素来确定报考学校。

2.备考资料的选择英语专业考研的备考资料可以分为以下几类:

(1)报考学校规定的参考书,报考学校的英语专业的学生用的教学用书,但是没列在参考书里边的。(建议考生参考书买新的,因为别人用过的书上面会有笔记,这会影响到考

生的思路)

(2)历年考研真题,一般三年的就够了,还需要考虑报考学校的外国语学院有没有在招考政策上的改革,因为这会影响到试卷的命题。

(3)报考学校的英语专业的学生的课堂笔记。(指与考研科目相关的专业,比如说翻译科目的笔记)

(4)报考学校的精品课程

(5)与考研科目相关的辅导书。(这要是具体情况而定)

3.人脉关系在确定好了报考学校,准备好了备考资料后,最好找一个报考学校的英语专业的学姐或学长,这样会得到一些意外的收获。(以我为例,我现在是南开大学外国语学院研究生一年级的学生,我在平时的上课之中就发现,老师平时讲的东西有的就是我们的考研试卷上的东西)

4.制定计划在做好了上面三项准备工作之后,就要制定考研计划了,我把考研计划分为宏观和微观两个层面。宏观层面:

1-2月份:利用寒假的时间最好把报考学校定下来,把考研资料尽可能得准备好。
